Attitudes of residents of the Rybnik agglomeration towards the energy transition

Niniejsza praca magisterska skupia się na postawach społecznych wobec transformacji energetycznej na obszarze aglomeracji rybnickiej (południowo-zachodnia część województwa śląskiego), regionu wciąż jeszcze mocno związanego z górnictwem węgla kamiennego. Opracowania tego tematu podjęto się w oparciu o literaturę przedmiotu, treści publikatorów, dokumentów strategicznych, danych zastanych i przeprowadzonego badania ankietowego. Ze względu na wieloaspektowy charakter transformacji energetycznej w badaniach skupiono się jedynie na jej wybranych elementach, głównie w kontekście odchodzenia od wykorzystywania węgla kamiennego w energetyce i ciepłownictwie. Swym zakresem objęło ono takie kwestie jak preferencje co do kształtu i tempa wprowadzania transformacji energetycznej, opinii na temat różnych źródeł energii, przekonania na temat możliwych skutków transformacji energetycznej czy też podejmowania indywidualnych działań prośrodowiskowych. Ponadto w pracy poruszono także problematykę transformacji energetycznej, zwłaszcza w jej społecznym zakresie oraz aglomeracji rybnickiej, która stanowi słabo zbadany zespół miejski.

This master's thesis focuses on social attitude towards energy transition in the Rybnik agglomeration (southwestern part of the Silesian Voivodeship), a region still strongly associated with coal mining. The study of this topic was undertaken on the basis of the literature on the subject, the content of publications, strategic documents, existing secondary data and a carried out survey. Due to the multifaceted nature of the energy transition, the study focused only on its selected elements, mainly in the context of stopping the use of hard coal in the power and heating industries. Undertaken survey covered such issues as preferences for the shape and pace of the introduction of the energy transition, opinions on different energy sources, beliefs about the possible effects of the energy transition or taking individual pro-environmental measures. In addition, the thesis also addressed the energy transition, especially in its social scope, and the Rybnik agglomeration, which is a poorly studied urban area.
