Polityka miejsc publicznych. Marginalizowane ciała w miejscach publicznych

W tej pracy dowodzę, że pomimo tego, co może sugerować ich nazwa, przestrzenie publiczne nie są ze swojej natury inkluzywne ani neutralne. W związku z tym, doświadczenia osób zmarginalizowanych w przestrzeni publicznej znacznie różnią się od doświadczeń większości populacji. W pracy stale odwołuję się do Anity Sethi i jej książki I belong here: A journey along the backbone of Britain oraz analizuję jej doświadczenia niebiałej kobiety związane z korzystaniem z transportu publicznego i terenów zielonych. W pierwszym rozdziale opisuję związek między wykluczeniem a integracją, zauważając, że te dwa zjawiska nie mogą istnieć oddzielnie. Następnie przedstawiam konsekwencje wykluczenia, od oddawania się przemocy aż po doświadczanie zespołu stresu pourazowego (PTSD). W drugim i trzecim rozdziale szczegółowo analizuję transport publiczny i przestrzenie zielone w celu przedstawienia rzeczywistych doświadczeń zmarginalizowanej populacji i omówienia ich relacji ze sferą publiczną. Dyskryminacyjne korzenie wielu obszarów publicznych prowadzą do ciągłej dyskryminacji jednostek ze względu na ich rasę, płeć i klasę nawet w obecnych czasach, tym samym udowadniając, że nie każdy należy do społeczeństwa, któremu przestrzeń publiczna ma służyć.

In this paper, I argue that, despite what their name might suggest, public spaces are not inherently inclusive or neutral. In light of the above, the experience of marginalized people in public spaces greatly differs from that of the majority of the population. Throughout my thesis I continuously refer to Anita Sethi and her book I Belong Here: A Journey along the Backbone of Britain and examine her experience of using public transport and green areas as a woman of color. In the first chapter, I describe the relationship between exclusion and inclusion, noting that the two cannot exist separately. The consequences of exclusion, from indulging in violence to experiencing PTSD, are then presented. In the second and third chapters respectively public transport and green spaces are examined in detail in order to present the real, everyday experience of the marginalized population and discuss their relationship with the public sphere. The discriminatory roots of many public areas have led to the continued discrimination of individuals based on their race, gender and class in the present age, thus proving that not everybody belongs to the public that public spaces claim to cater to.
