Medieval anti-Judaism in the context of the views of St. Thomas Aquinas

W teologii chrześcijańskiej Żydzi stanowili ważny punkt, zarówno przez ich rolę w Nowym Testamencie, jak i interpretowanie przez chrześcijan ksiąg izraelskich w świetle wiary w zmartwychwstanie Jezusa Chrystusa. Celem niniejszej pracy jest ukazanie stanowiska św. Tomasza z Akwinu względem narodu żydowskiego na tle stosunków między Żydami i chrześcijanami w starożytności oraz w średniowieczu do XIII w. W pracy została ukazana ciągłość wybranych zarzutów, którymi obarczano Żydów, a które znalazły swoje odbicie nie tylko w doktrynie Kościoła, ale również w opinii publicznej, sztukach teatralnych i plastycznych.Św. Tomasza z Akwinu w swojej teologii poświęcił wiele miejsca narodowi Żydowskiemu. Praca skupia się na "Sumie teologicznej", w której autor rozważał problematykę dotyczącą przymuszania Żydów do chrztu, zakazów obrzędów żydowskich, małżeństw, publicznych dysput, lichwy i kwestii zbrodni przeciw Chrystusowi, o którą Żydzi byli posądzani. Również w pracy przytoczony i rozpatrzony zostaje list nazywany "De regimine Judaeorum", w którym Tomasz odpowiada na pytania związane z zarządzaniem Żydami.

In Christian theology, Jews constituted an important point, both for their role in the New Testament, and the fact that Christians interpreted the books of Israel in the light of faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The aim of this paper is to show the position of St. Thomas Aquinas concerning the Jewish people against the background of relations between Jews and Christians in antiquity and the Middle Ages to the 16th century. This work shows the continuity of chosen charges with which Jews were being burdened , which were reflected not only in the doctrine of the Church, but also in public opinion, theater and visual arts. St. Thomas Aquinas in his theology devoted much space to the Jewish nation. The work focuses on the Summa Theologica, in which the author considered issues concerning forcing Jews to baptism, prohibition of Jewish rituals, marriages, public debates, usury, and the issue of issue of felony against the Christ of which Jews were accused. Also in the paper quoted and considered is a letter called De regimine Judaeorum, in which Thomas answers questions related to the management of the Jews.
