Nazwy własne w tłumaczeniu pierwszego sezonu serialu „Wiedźmin”: analiza porównawcza napisów w języku angielskim, hiszpańskim (europejskim i amerykańskim) oraz polskim

Proper names in the translation of the first season of the TV series “The Witcher”: a comparative analysis of subtitles in English, Spanish from Spain, Spanish from Latin America, and Polish

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza przekładu nazw własnych w tłumaczeniu pierwszego sezonu serialu „Wiedźmin”. Analizowane są cztery wersje napisów: oryginalna wersja angielska oraz trzy tłumaczenia (hiszpański europejski, hiszpański amerykański i polski). W pierwszym rozdziale pracy przedstawiono normy i teorie dotyczące nazw własnych, ich klasyfikację oraz funkcje jakie pełnią. Następnie, w rozdziale drugim, omówiono problem tłumaczenia nazw własnych, stosowane w przekładoznawstwie techniki oraz rozróżnienie między strategiami egzotyzacji i domestykacji. Część teoretyczna pracy kończy się rozdziałem trzecim, poświęconym tłumaczeniom audiowizualnym i ich głównym rodzajom. W ostatnim rozdziale przeprowadzono analizę porównawczą czterech wersji napisów serialu „Wiedźmin” i przedstawiono uwagi dotyczące zastosowanych technik tłumaczeniowych, wierności kanonowi literackiemu oraz spójności w stosowaniu wielkich liter.

The aim of this thesis is to analyse the treatment of proper names in the translation of the first season of the TV series “The Witcher”. It analyses four subtitle versions: the original English and three translations (Spanish from Spain, Latin American Spanish, and Polish). The first chapter presents the theoretical framework for proper names, their classification and functions. The second chapter discusses the problem of translating proper names, the techniques that can be applied, and the distinction between foreignization and domestication strategies. The theoretical part of the thesis concludes with the third chapter, which is devoted to audiovisual translation and its main modalities. The final chapter provides a comparative analysis of the four versions of the subtitles for the TV series "The Witcher" and presents observations on the translation techniques used, fidelity to the literary canon, and consistency in the use of initial capitalisation.

El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar el tratamiento de los nombres propios en la traducción de la primera temporada de la serie “The Witcher”. Se examinan las cuatro versiones subtituladas: la versión original en inglés y tres traducciones (español de España, español de América Latina y polaco). En el primer capítulo se presenta el marco teórico sobre los nombres propios, su clasificación y las funciones que desempeñan. A continuación, en el segundo capítulo se expone el problema de la traducción de los nombres propios, las técnicas aplicables y la distinción entre las estrategias de extranjerización y domesticación. La parte teórica del trabajo concluye con el tercer capítulo, dedicado a la traducción audiovisual y sus principales modalidades. En el último capítulo se realiza el análisis comparativo de las cuatro versiones de los subtítulos de la serie "The Witcher" y se presentan las observaciones acerca de las técnicas de traducción aplicadas, la fidelidad al canon literario y la consistencia en el empleo de la mayúscula inicial.
