The evaluation of the usability of student user interface in USOSweb system

Praca została napisana w odpowiedzi na potrzeby studentów, korzystających z różnym skutkiem z systemu USOSweb przez cały okres studiów. Przedmiotem pracy jest interfejs, za pomocą którego studenci zarządzają procesami związanymi ze studiami. Głównym celem badań było określenie, czy interfejs ten jest użyteczny i jakie elementy decydują o tym w największym stopniu. Badania objęły takie elementy systemu jak system nawigacji, organizacja treści na stronie, system pomocy, język interfejsu, sprawność i szybkość systemu, problemy. Wyniki uzyskano za pomocą narzędzia badawczego złożonego z kilku metod i technik, wśród których znalazła się ankieta, testy funkcjonalne, think-aloud technique, ankieta User-Experience. Rezultatem badań jest zestaw elementów, które decydują o postrzeganiu użyteczności Uniwersyteckiego Systemu Obsługi Studiów wraz z komentarzem odnoszącym się do ich znaczenia i roli. Ocena użyteczności została dokonana w oparciu o 5 komponentów użyteczności J. Nielsena. Wyniki badań ujawniły także problemy, z jakimi użytkownicy systemu spotykają się najczęściej, co pozwoliło na stworzenie listy rekomendacji dla systemu.

This master thesis was written in response to the needs of students who used the USOSweb system all the study time with varying degrees of success. The subject of this thesis is user-interface which helps students to manage the processes connected with their studies. The main aim of the study was to determine the usability of that interface and to describe which elements are crucial in evaluating usability. The research concerns some elements of the system like navigation system, organization of information, help system, language of the interface, efficiency of the system and difficulties in using the USOSweb system. The research tool was composed of some research methods and techniques, such as questionnaire, usability test, think-aloud technique and User-Experience Questionnaire. The result of the study is a set of elements which determine the perception of the usability of the USOSweb system. Each element contains the information about its significance for the evaluation of the usability of the USOSweb system. The usability evaluation of the user-interface in the USOSweb system was based on 5 quality components by J. Nielsen. The results revealed the most common difficulties in using USOSweb, which helped to create the list of recommendations.
