Political and socio-cultural aspects of shaping the Latin American identity in the 20th century

The history of the formation of the Latin American identity goes back to colonial times. The long-standing reign of European powers has left a deep mark on the people living in the region. Connections of Latin America with metropolises implied phenomena and events that had an impact on the need to express uniqueness. The meeting of native and European culture has resulted in the creation of a Latin American civilization that is characterized by heterogeneity. At the same time, it is the largest region of the world that is so homogenous due to the language and religion. Dependence on the United States has awakened in the Latin Americans the need to build unity. When the Inter-American system failed, regional integration became a way to do it.
