Bardzo powolny wzrost, brak charakterystycznych objawów klinicznych to cechy charakterystyczne tych guzów. Podstawowym badaniem diagnostycznym jest ultrasonografia i tomografia komputerowa jamy brzusznej. Leczenie chirurgiczne jest postępowaniem z wyboru w mięsakach tkanek miękkich i najlepiej, aby było radykalne chociaż niejednokrotnie rozmiar guza i sąsiedztwo ważnych struktur to utrudnia. Zazwyczaj są to niepowtarzalne operacje i wyzwanie dla chirurgów. Prezentowany przypadek to 54 letnia pacjentka z olbrzymim guzem przestrzeni zaotrzewnowej (21 kg) poddana zabiegowi operacyjnemu. Rozmiar guza wymusił resekcję wielonarządową - usunięto prawie całe jelito cienkie oraz sieć większą. W pracy przedstawione jest przygotowanie i przeprowadzenie dużego zabiegu, problemy pielęgnacyjne pacjentki przed zabiegiem, w trakcie i po zabiegu oraz rola zespołu operacyjnego .

Soft tissue sarcomas of the retroperitoneal space is a group of very rare tumors. Very slow growth, lack of characteristic clinical symptoms are typical of these tumors. Surgery is the treatment of choice for soft tissue sarcomas and the best to be radical but often the size of the tumor and the proximity of important structures is difficult.
