The image of post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina in reportages. A West European perspective.

Tematem niniejszej pracy licencjackiej jest obraz powojennej Bośni i Hercegowiny oraz sposób w jaki reportażyści zachodnioeuropejscy - Ed Vulliamy i Hervé Ghesquière opisują kraj dwadzieścia lat po zakończeniu wojen z lat 90 XX w. Rozdział pierwszy poświęcony został próbie zdefiniowania znaczenia reportażu oraz roli mediów w konflikcie. Druga część jest analizą wybranych reportaży: Wojna umarła. Niech żyje wojna. Bośniackie rozrachunki oraz Sarajewo, rany są nadal zbyt głębokie. W ostatniej części pracy znajduje się podsumowanie wniosków oraz próba odnalezienia podobieństw i różnic pomiędzy omawianymi książkami.

The topic of this undergraduate thesis is the image of post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina in Western media coverage as well as the ways in Western European reporters - Ed Vulliamy i Hervé Ghesquière – describe the country twenty years after the end of the Balkan wars of the 1990s. The first chapter is dedicated to attempting to define the meaning of media reports as well as the role of media in conflicts. Chapter Two is an in-depth analysis of selected reports: “The War is Dead, Long Live the War: Bosnia – The Reckoning”, by Vulliamy and “Sarajevo, the wounds are still too fresh” (FR), by Ghesquière. The final part of this thesis brings together the conclusions of the analysis, as well and highlights the similarities and differences between the works discussed.
