How is childfree born? A phenomenological-hermeneutic analysis of the phenomenon of childlessness by choice

Niniejsza praca jest próbą zrozumienia i opisu doświadczeń kobiet, które zdecydowały nie mieć dzieci. Temat bezdzietności z wyboru jest bardzo obszerny i zawiera w sobie wiele wątków. Skupiono się na doświadczeniach, wartościach i poglądach składających się na drogę kobiet do niedzietności. W teoretycznej części pracy dokonano przeglądu informacji począwszy od tematu macierzyństwa, zarówno na świecie jak i w Polsce oraz obrazu kobiety jako Matki, poprzez bezdzietność na świecie i w Polsce oraz obraz kobiety Niematki, do przedstawienia tematu tworzenia rodziny, wpływu orientacji seksualnej oraz przebiegu procesu decyzyjnego wśród kobiet świadomie bezdzietnych. W ramach badania przeprowadzono sześć wywiadów częściowo ustrukturyzowanych z kobietami bezdzietnymi z wyboru. W badaniu wykorzystano technikę metodologii jakościowej, analizę fenomenologiczno-hermeneutyczną. Z rozmów wynika, że to jak i kiedy kobiety decydują o pozostaniu bezdzietnymi ma związek z ich doświadczeniami z różnych okresów w życiu.

This thesis is an attempt to understand and describe the experiences of women who have chosen not to have children. The topic of childlessness by choice is very broad and contains many strands. The focus is on the experiences, values and views that make up a woman's journey to childlessness. The theoretical part of the thesis reviews information ranging from the topic of motherhood, both in the world and in Poland, and the image of women as mothers, through childlessness in the world and in Poland, and the image of the woman as a non-mother, to the presentation of the topic of family formation, the influence of sexual orientation and the decision-making process among consciously childless women. The study involved six semi-structured interviews with childless women by choice. The study used a qualitative methodology technique, phenomenological-hermeneutic analysis. The interviews reveal that how and when women decide to remain childless is related to their experiences at different times in their lives.
