Transcultural value of mandala in therapy.

Znawcom i osobom zainteresowanym Dalekim Wschodem termin "mandala" kojarzy się przede wszystkim z przepięknymi i bogatymi we wzory i kolory dziełami sztuki, powiązanymi z dalekowschodnimi religiami i wierzeniami. Fakt, iż owe dzieła są coraz częściej wykorzystywane w terapii i psychoterapii wciąż bywa zaskoczeniem. Terapia z wykorzystaniem mandal, jeden z niezliczonych sposobów wykorzystania arteterapii - czyli terapii poprzez szeroko rozumianą sztukę, od czasów opracowania tejże metody przez Carla Gustava Junga, zyskuje coraz szersze grono zwolenników. I o ile jako metoda terapeutyczna, jako narzędzie służące do diagnozy pacjenta mandala jest niezwykle fascynującym tematem badań - równie interesujący jest aspekt kulturowy tego zjawiska. Gdy typowo dalekowschodni symbol, związany z praktykami religijnymi staje się "kluczem" do psychiki zachodniego pacjenta aż trudno uwierzyć, że temat ten nie został jeszcze dogłębnie zbadany i opisany w fachowej literaturze, zarówno psychologicznej jak i stricte kulturoznawczej. Że istnienie mandali terapeutycznej należącej w równej mierze do kręgu kulturowego Dalekiego Wschodu i szeroko rozumianego Zachodu, wciąż budzi zaskoczenie. Praca ta ma na celu pokazanie właśnie tej transkulturowej strony mandali terapeutycznej, zaprezentowanie zagadnienia wydawałoby się czysto psychologicznego od strony kulturoznawczej.

For those familiar and interested in Far East the term "mandala" means the gorgeous and rich in both detail and colour pieces of art, part of Eastern religions and bielieves. Its still surprising that the same pieces of art can be used in therapy and psychotherapy. Therapy with mandalas, one of the many methods of art therapy, ever since it was designed by Carl Gustav Jung, is succesfully used in practice. And even though as a tool used in psychology, mostly in diagnosis, the method is unmistakably fascinating, from the cultural point of view it proves to be equally, if not more interesting subject for research. When a purely Eastern symbol becomes a "key" to understanding Western patients, one starts to wonder why the subject has yet failed to be throughoutly researched, from both the psychological and cultural field. Why the existance of such Eastern-Western hybird is still surprising. This thesis is an attempt to show the transcultural value of mandala in its therapeutic form, it aims to present a seemingly psychological problem from cultural point of view.
