For decades the discussion on the causes, course and consequence of the European integration has been dominated by a conviction on its progressive, functional, positivist nature, where - as believed by D. Mitrany, L. Lindberg or E. Hass - a peculiar phenomenon called the spillover effect was manifested. Although inthe periods of economic prosperity in Europe it was indeed quite easy to find empirical evidence of these convictions, during crises, shrinking resources, increased rivalry, and consequently the perspective of renationalization of the earlier arduously Europeanized policies, other mechanisms and instruments were employed, as well as arguments justifying their use. Arguments referred to state of consciousness of both political decision-makers and citizens and its core was the sense of threat. Fear of danger served a twofold task: it mobilized and integrated a given community. Recognizing this phenomenon inspires the search for methodological solutions allowing to describe the European system in a more complete way (system herein identified with the European Union), transforming under the influence of real and discursive threats and crises. Further, an important task is certainly the explanation of meanders and mechanisms of processes dynamizing the European system by understanding motives of its most important actors or forecasting changes within it. An explanatory model capable of such Challenge should be inclusive, that is it should employ descriptive-analytical categories recognized by researchers of political and social processes in Europe. At the same time, by their non-standard juxtaposition it would allow to better grasp and comprehend what seems a new quality in the European space. Herein, the axis of theoretical assumptions is therefore an attempt at juxtaposing three mature theoretical concepts: Europeanization, regionalization and securitization.
