The influence of Zen Buddhism on the litearature of the chosen writers of the Beat Generation movement.

Praca porusza temat wpływu, jaki na twórczość wybranych pisarzy nurtu beat generation wywarła filozofia Dalekiego Wschodu, a w szczególności buddyzmu zen.Rozdział pierwszy zawiera analizę kontekstu historycznego, w którym powstał nurt oraz problematykę zmian społeczno – kulturowych z nim związanych. Skupia się na interpretacji prac trzech wybranych autorów – Jack'a Kerouac'a, Allen'a Ginsberg'a i Gary'ego Snyder'a. Pisarze Ci czerpali wiele z filozofii buddyzmu zen a w swoich pracach nawiązywali do jego symboliki. Opisy biograficzne każdego z trzech autorów służą przybliżeniu problematyki ich wyobcowania ze społeczeństwa i odrzucenia obowiązujących norm moralnych. W rozdziale drugim znajduje się wyjaśnienie, czym jest Buddyzm oraz jak był on postrzegany przez jego głównego propagatora w Stanach Zjednoczonych – Daisetz'a Teitarou Suzuki'ego, którego prace stanowiły dla pisarzy nurtu beat generation jedno z głównych źródeł wiedzy na temat tej filozofii. Moralność zenu, głosząca autentyczność przeżyć, szczerość i naturalność była dla wspomnianych autorów dobrą alternatywą dla panującej w Stanach Zjednoczonych XX wieku obyczajowości. Rozdział trzeci zawiera interpretację poezji i prozy Kerouac'a, Ginsberg'a i Snyder'a, w której nawiązania do buddyzmu zen są wyraźnie widoczne.

The thesis takes up a subject of influence of the Far East philosophy, and especially the zen Buddhism, on the literature of chosen writers of beat generation movement.First division contains an analysis of historical contecst in which the movement arised and an issue of changes on the social and cultural fields. It focuses on the interpretation of the works of three chosen writers – Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and Gary Snyder. They derived from the buddhist philosophy and referd to its symbolism in they're literature. The biographical decriptions of each of the authors explain the problem of writers' alienation from society and binding moral norms rejection. Second division describes what the Buddhism is and how was it iterpreted by it's main promoter in the United States – Daistez Teitarou Suzuki, whose works was one of the main sources of knowledge about the zen philosophy for beat generation movemant writers. Zen morality, propagating the authenticity of expiriences, honesty and naturalness was a good alternative for the morals of United States in XX century. Third Division contains the interpretation of a prose and poetry of Kerouac, Ginsberg and Snyder, in which the buddhist influences are noticeable.
