TYTUŁ: Szpital Psychiatryczny Kraków- Kobierzyn wczoraj i dziśCEL PRACY: Celem pracy jest przedstawienie dziejów Szpitala Psychiatrycznego w Krakowie – Kobierzynie, ze względu na ważną rolę społeczną jaką spełnia ta placówka oraz bardzo niewielkie opracowanie tego tematu w literaturze.STRESZCZENIE: Zakład został wybudowany jako odrębne miasteczko w oparciu o ideę samowystarczalnego miasta – ogrodu. Obiekt w całości uznawany wtedy za najpiękniejszy i najnowocześniejszy rozpoczął pracę w 1918 roku. Poziom terapii w Kobierzynie odpowiadał metodą stosowanym wówczas w psychiatrii. Lata wojny zatrzymały rozwój Zakładu i spowodowały, że stał się miejscem biologicznego wyniszczenia, a potem zagłady chorych przebywających w nim na leczeniu. Zakład po opuszczeniu przez Niemców przedstawiał obraz kompletnej ruiny. Ponowne uruchomienie Kobierzyna już jako Szpitala nastąpiło 1 czerwca 1946 roku. Do dzisiejszego dnia Szpital jest modernizowany i rozbudowywany, wprowadzane są nowoczesne formy leczenia. Nieustanne niedostatki finansowe Służby Zdrowia sprawiły, że dotychczas nie odzyskał sławy najnowocześniejszego Szpitala Europy. Istnieje bardzo pilna potrzeba wypracowania planu rozwoju dla Szpitala Psychiatrycznego im. J. Babińskiego na najbliższe lata.WNIOSKI: Dzieje Szpitala Psychiatrycznego w Kobierzynie to 95 lat ogromnego wysiłku i starań o ulżenie doli psychicznie chorych ludzi, to także poważny wkład w rozwój polskiej psychiatrii oraz coraz lepsze i skuteczniejsze metody leczenia. Należy sądzić, iż efekty tej pracy i posiadane doświadczenia lecznicze będą wzrastać w miarę modernizacji i unowocześnienia Szpitala.

THE TITLE: Psychiatric hospital Cracow – Kobierzyn nowadays and in the past.THE AIM OF THIS STUDY: The aim of this study is to present the history of the hospital in view of its important social role and because of poor development of the theme.SUMMARY: The Home for mentally and nervously ill patients in Kobierzyn was built as a separate village which was based on the idea of self – supporting town – garden. The object as the whole considered at the time as the mostbeautiful and modern, started working in 1918. From the very beginning the standard of treatment corresponded to methods used in psychiatry. Years of the Second World Warstopped further development of the Hospital as it became a place for biological detruction, and the extermination of patients staying on treatment. After the Germans had left, the place presented an image of complete ruin. The re – opening of Kobierzyn now functioning as a hospital took place on 1.06.1946. Until now it has been modernized and expanded and the new forms of treatment have been introduced. However, continuous financial shortcomings of the Health Service caused that is has not yet regained the fame of the most modern Hospital in Europe. There is a very urgent heed for a development plan for the Psychiatric Hospital J. Babiński for the next years.CONCLUSION: The history of a Psychiatric Hospital in Kobierzyn shows 95 years of great effort to relieve the fate of mentally ill people. It has also a major contribution to the development of Polish psychiatry and getting better and more effective methods of treatment. It should be believed that the results of this work and gained experience will increase as for as the upgrading and modernization of the Hospital.
