Media mają wpływ na rzeczywistość. Reporter, z kolei posiada, niejako „moc” wpływania na rzeczywistość, bowiem czasami jest jedyną osobą, która za pomocą reportażu, może przedstawić niewygodną prawdę. Dziennikarstwo śledcze musi zatem bazować na faktach i właściwym ich ujęciu w celu przedstawiania kontekstu sprawy. Dzięki temu zyskuje siłę wpływania na ludzi i ich wzorce kulturowe, a bohaterom reportaży może przynieść pomoc lub ukojenie. Przykładem wspomnianej siły reportażu są historie przedstawione przez W. Bojanowskiego i J. Kopińską. Gdyby nie dziennikarka dociekliwość reporterów, prawdopodobnie opinia publiczna nigdy by nie dowiedziała się o sprawie śmierci młodego chłopaka w komisariacie oraz o księdzu pedofilu. Reportaże istotnie wpłynęły na dalsze działania. W przypadku policjantów torturujących Igora Stachowiaka otrzymali oni wyroki więzienia, a ksiądz pedofil został usunięty z kościoła. Ponadto, dzięki reportażowi, po raz pierwszy kościół zapłaci odszkodowanie ofierze księdza pedofila.

The media has an impact on reality. The reporter, in turn, has a "power" to influence the reality, because sometimes he is the only person who can present an uncomfortable truth through reportage. Investigative journalism must therefore be based on facts and the correct formulation of them in order to present the context of the case. Thanks to this, it gains the power to influence people and their cultural models, and it can bring help or relief to the protagonists of the reports. An example of the aforementioned power of reportage are the stories presented by W. Bojanowski and J. Kopińska. Were it not for the journalist's inquisitiveness, the public would probably never have learned about the death of the young boy at the police station and about the pedophile priest. Reports significantly influenced further actions. In the case of the policemen torturing Igor Stachowiak, they received prison sentences and the pedophile priest was removed from the church. In addition, thanks to the report, for the first time the church will pay compensation to the sacrifice of a pedophile priest.
