W czasie, kiedy świat unipolarny charakteryzujący się dominacją wyłącznie Stanów Zjednoczonych na arenie międzynarodowej dobiegł końca, warto zastanowić się jak wpływa to na stosunki dwóch najważniejszych aktorów regionu Atlantyku – Stanów Zjednoczonych i Unii Europejskiej, które podczas zimnej wojny tworzyły fundament dla późniejszego ładu światowego, w którym Stany Zjednoczone stały się jedynym supermocarstwem. Od kilkunastu lat można zaobserwować przyspieszone tempo oddalania się od siebie Ameryki i Europy, potęgowane przez wiele kontrowersji w ich wzajemnych stosunkach. W pracy zbadano stosunki Unii Europejskiej i Stanów Zjednoczonych na tle rywalizacji amerykańsko-chińskiej w XXI w. w kontekście zmian w relacjach bilateralnych między UE i USA, a także jak różniły się one w zależności od prezydentów amerykańskich urzędujących w poszczególnych okresach. Autorka przyjrzała się również temu jak rywalizacja i konflikt w stosunkach Chiny-USA oddziałują na wzajemne relacje amerykańsko-europejskie. Zbadanie relacji Unii Europejskiej i Stanów Zjednoczonych na początku XXI w., jest szczególnie ważne w momencie, kiedy rywalizacja chińsko-amerykańska nabiera tempa i znacznie wpływa na stosunki międzynarodowe i ład światowy.

Especially in recent years, there has been an increasing rivalry between the United States and China. At a time, when the unipolar world characterized only by the domination of the United States in the international arena has come to an end, it is worth considering how this affects the relations of the two most important actors in the Atlantic region - the United States and the European Union, which during the Cold War period laid the foundations for the subsequent global order in which the United States became the only superpower. For several years now, we have been observing an accelerated pace of America and Europe moving away from each other, compounded by many controversies in their mutual relations. The dissertation examines the relations between the European Union and the United States against the background of US-Chinese rivalry in the 21st century in the context of changes in bilateral relations between the EU and the US, and how they differed depending on the US presidents in office in particular periods. The author also looked at how rivalry and conflict in China-US relations affect US-European relations. The examination of the relations between the European Union and the United States at the beginning of the 21st century is particularly important at a time when the Sino-American rivalry is gaining momentum and significantly influences international relations and the world order.
