Tarot - philosophical aspects

Tarot budzi skrajne emocje, od zachwytu i uwielbienia zwolenników, poprzez śmiech sceptyków, aż po nienawiść i strach jego krytyków. Wielość mitów narosłych wokół tej talii kart wprowadziły ją na stałość w kulturę Zachodniej Europy. W swojej pracy postanowiłem zmierzyć się z mitem Tarota, jednak nie z punktu widzenia religioznawcy, kulturoznawcy, czy historyka, ale spoglądając na talię okiem filozofia.Pierwsza część poświęcona jest historii Tarota – droga kart do Europy, pojawienie się Tarota, historii wróżenia i mitologii Tarota. Część ta pozwala na umieszczenie talii w miejscu i czasie. Służy z jednej strony demitologizacji Tarota, z drugiej strony wydobyciu kulturowych aspektów tych kart.W drugiej części znajduje się opis Wielkich Arkanów. Opis jest tak naprawdę analizą symboliki kart Wielkich Arkanów i wydobyciem pytań i odpowiedzi na wielkie pytania filozoficzne. Karty analizowane są najpierw w odosobnieniu, następnie zarysowane są możliwe relacje między nimi i wreszcie jako całość. Ostatnią część stanowi próba odpowiedzi na pytanie o możliwość funkcjonowania Tarota jako narzędzia dywinacji.

Tarot is controversial, it is loved by those, who believe in it, laughed by the sceptics, and hated by enemies. Myths around this deck of playing cards established the importance of Tarot in West European culture. In my master's thesis I adress the issue of the myth of Tarot, not as a religion, culture or history expert, but as a philosopher. The first part centers around the history of Tarot - cards' journey to Europe, first apperance of Tarot, history of divination and mythology of Tarot. This part allows the reader to visualize Tarot in a place and a time. It also exposes the myth of Tarot and allows the reader to see cultural aspects of this cards at the same time. In second part the reader finds the description of Great Arcana, together with analysis of symbols on cards. The author also poses important questions on the subject and provides answers to the great philosophical issues. The cards are firstly analized separately, then in groups and finally as a whole.The aim of the last part of the thesis is a try to answer the question of posibility of using Tarot as a divination tool.
