The thesis describes the emancipation reform carried out in Galicia and the legal process preceding its implementation. It presents the events from the perspective of the Poles living in the Austrian partition. It illustrates the conflict of interests between the Polish nobility and the Austrian occupier, which influenced the shape of the reforms. It outlines the legislation that affected the final form of the peasant emancipation process. It also examines the crisis resulting from the reform.
