This thesis explores the cross-cultural aspects of detecting deception. Deception is a universal phenomenon that occurs in all cultures, and detecting deception is a challenging task for individuals and institutions worldwide. The purpose of this study is to examine the cultural differences in detecting deception and the underlying factors that influence cross-cultural deception detection accuracy.The literature review focuses on the theories and models of deception and deception detection, cultural differences in communication styles and nonverbal behavior, and the effects of stereotypes and prejudices on cross-cultural deception detection. The review reveals that cultural differences affect the accuracy of detecting deception and that individuals from different cultural backgrounds have different perceptions of deception and use different cues to detect it.The empirical study aims to investigate cross-cultural deception detection accuracy and the role of cultural background, communication style, and nonverbal behavior in detecting deception. A sample of participants from different cultural backgrounds will be asked to view video clips of individuals telling either truthful or deceptive statements and to judge their veracity. The results will be analyzed using statistical methods to determine the relationship between cross-cultural factors and deception detection accuracy.This study contributes to the understanding of the role of culture in deception detection and provides insights into the factors that influence cross-cultural deception detection accuracy. The findings of this study have implications for practitioners in fields such as law enforcement, intelligence, and international business, where cross-cultural deception detection accuracy is crucial.
