Różnorodność poglądów na temat miłości i małżeństwa w powieści Rozważna i Romantyczna autorstwa Jane Austen

Niniejsza praca przedstawia analizę różnych poglądów na temat małżeństwa i miłości w późnym XVIII wieku na podstawie bohaterów z książki „Rozważna i Romantyczna” autorstwa Jane Austen. W pierwszym rozdziale skupiłam się na przedstawieniu kontekstu historycznego oraz sytuacji socjoekonomicznej kobiet, a także ukazaniu stylu autorki i tematyki jej dzieł. W tym rozdziale staram się również udowodnić dlaczego Jane Austen może być przez nas postrzegana jako autorka wczesno feministyczna. W drugim rozdziale przedstawiam poglądy na temat małżeństwa i miłości trzech różnych kobiet ukazanych w powieści. W trzecim rozdziale skoncentrowałam się na ingerencji rodziny w małżeństwo. W ostatnim rozdziale postanowiłam przedstawić perspektywę mężczyzn na temat małżeństwa na podstawie bohaterów powieści, aby mieć możliwość porównania poglądów kobiet i mężczyzn. Pracę zakończyłam wnioskiem, że książka „Rozważna i Romantyczna” autorstwa Jane Austen ukazuje ogromną różnorodność poglądów na temat małżeństwa i miłości, oraz że owa powieść może być uznana za uniwersalną.

This thesis presents an analysis of different approaches to marriage and love in the late 18th century, in relation to various characters from Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. In the first chapter, I presented the socio-historical background to the novel in which I focused on women’s socio-economic situation, the author’s style, her works’ main themes, and I also tried to argue why Jane Austen could be considered a pre-feminist writer. The second chapter includes female approaches to marriage and love based on three diverse women characters and their unique mindset depicted in the novel. In the third chapter, I have concentrated on family interference into marriage and analyzed approaches of family members to the matter. Finally, I have decided to dedicate the last chapter to the male perspective on marriage based on male characters from the novel to be able to have a comparison of men’s and women’s opinions. My thesis ends with the conclusion that there is a great diversity in views concerning matrimony and love presented in Sense and Sensibility and that Austen’s novel could be seen as universal.
