Anthropomorphism of the Female Figure in 2D Disney Films

Praca licencjacka poświęcona jest analizie funkcjonowania oraz znaczeniu postaci kobiecej w filmach animowanych Disneya 2D. Ma na celu zaprezentowanie wizerunku kobiecych bohaterek, a także ukazanie znaczeń kulturowych konotowanych przez ich kreację. Analizie zostały poddane następujące filmy z lat 70. i 90.: Robin Hood (1973), Bernard i Bianka (1977), Król lew (1994). Wybór ten pozwala na analizę zróżnicowanego stopnia zabiegu antropomorfizacji. Konteksty kulturowe wykorzystane do analizy przywoływanych produkcji to: znaczenie obrazu, stereotypy kulturowe, a także zdarzenia historyczne – rewolucja kulturalna. Postacie wykreowane przez wytwórnię Walta Disneya zaprzeczają wizerunkowi nieporadnej kobiety, gdyż bohaterki posiadają własne zdanie, wybierają swoich towarzyszy, a także mają silne poczucie własnej wartości. Znają także zasady panujące w społeczeństwie, jednak podporządkowują się im, jedynie gdy się z nimi zgadzają. Znaczenie kobiecej postaci zostało ukazane za pomocą animowanego obrazu. Pozwala on na ukazanie zróżnicowanych aspektów analizowanego zjawiska oraz zmianę, która następuje w prezentowanym przez Disneya kobiecym wizerunku.

This bachelor's thesis develops an analytical framework to understand the function and the meaning of the female figure in 2D Disney films. The main problem of this work is to show and present how the effigies of the female characters are created and what is saying to us by means of mention picture films. The thesis is based on few movies which come from the ‘70s and ‘90s: Robin Hood, The Rescuers, The Lion King. The reason why I chose them is the diversity of anthropomorphism’s character. I’m using the cultural contexts during my analysis, like: the power of the picture, stereotype and history – the cultural revolution which manifests itself in the dress code and social activities like the social hierarchy. The Disney’s characters deny the picture of a poor, little woman; they have their own opinions, they choose their companions and they also have a strong self-esteem, they know the rules, but they respect them only if they serve them. The significance of the female figure lies in the picture which is created in animations and in the public discourse, as well as cultural cliché. The meaning of the picture is a major issue because it shows the various aspects of the analyzed phenomenon, the change in the female figure in 2D Disney films and also the multitude of social roles that women play.
