György Lukács and historism

Celem artykułu jest rekonstrukcja niektórych poglądów filozoficznych György’ego Lukácsa. Analizie zostały poddane wyłącznie te zagadnienia, które w przekonaniu autora świadczą za tym, że w okresie pisania Historii i świadmości klasowej, węgierski filozof opowiadał się za pewną wersją marksistowskiego historyzmu. Ponieważ historyzm zalicza się do pojęć wieloznacznych, podjęto próbę doprecyzowania możliwych jego interpretacji na gruncie refleksji marksistowskiej. Na tej podstawie starano się pokazać na czym polega oryginalność oraz odrębność stanowiska Lukácsa względem podobnych propozycji tego typu, szczególnie w kwestiach determinizmu historii oraz możliwość jej przewidywania. Zostało wykazane, że pomimo tego, że spora część rozważań węgierskiego marksisty koncentruje się na próbach systematyzacji metody materialistycznej dialektyki, wysiłek ten prowadzi zasadniczo do ugruntowania całościowego stanowiska filozoficznego, które stanowi twórczą syntezę zarówno myśli Marksa, jak i elementów niemieckiego idealizmu.

The aim of this article is to reconstruct some of György Lukács's philosophical views. The analysis focuses exclusively on those issues which, in the author's opinion, prove that at the time of writing History and Class Consciousness the Hungarian philosopher espoused a certain version of Marxist historism. Since historism is an ambiguous concept, an attempt was made to specify its potential readings on the premises of Marxist reflection. Using this as a basis, an effort has been made to show the originality and distinctiveness of Lukács's position in relation to proposals of a similar kind, especially in matters of determinism of history and the possibility of its prediction. Moreover it has been demonstrated that in spite of the fact that a considerable portion of the Hungarian Marxist’s considerations concentrates on attempts to systematize the method of materialist dialectics, this endeavor essentially leads to the establishment of a comprehensive philosophical position, which serves as a creative synthesis of both Marx's thought and elements of German idealism.
