Comparison of the Stonewall Riot and Polish solidarity demonstrations from August 2020. Analysis of the media coverage and opinions of Krakow’s LGBT + students

Artykuł przedstawia porównanie dwóch wydarzeń lokalnych ruchów LGBT+ w Polsce (z sierpnia 2020 r.) i Stanach Zjednoczonych (1969 r.) oraz analizę artykułu prasy elektronicznej pod kątem ramowania polskich demonstracji solidarnościowych przez pryzmat Powstania Stonewall. Rezultatem tego zabiegu mogłoby być postrzeganie polskich demonstracji LGBT+ na podobnym założycielsko poziomie, co Powstanie Stonewall, co dałoby zapamiętywalny moment w historii polskiego ruchu LGBT+. W celu sprawdzenia opinii krakowskich studentów LGBT+, na temat porównywania omawianych wydarzeń oraz używania nazwy Polskie Stonewall, przeprowadzona została ankieta ilościowa. Studenci prawie jednogłośnie sprzeciwili się powszechnemu przyjęciu nazwy i, mimo zauważania podobieństw, utożsamiania protestów ze sobą.

The article presents a comparison of two events of local LGBT+ movements in Poland (August 2020) and the United States (1969) and an analysis of the electronic press article in terms of framing Polish solidarity demonstrations through the prism of the Stonewall Riot. The result of this procedure could be the perception of Polish LGBT+ demonstrations on a founding level similar to the Stonewall Riot, which would provide a memorable moment in the history of the Polish LGBT+ movement. In order to check the opinions of Krakow LGBT+ students on comparing the discussed events and using the name Polish Stonewall, a quantitative survey was carried out. The students almost unanimously opposed the universal adoption of the name and, despite noticing the similarities, identifying the protests with each other.
