Presenting the changes in the tropes used by the Thai BL series based on 2gether and Bad Buddy

Niniejsza praca poprzez analizę serii 2gether oraz Bad Buddy, ukazuje jak ewoluowały motywy występujące w tajskich seriach BL (Boys Love), inaczej nazywanymi seriami wai. Serie zostały wybrane na podstawie popularności w latach 2020-2022, ze stacji GMMTV, która jest jednym z naczelnych wydawców serii wai w Tajlandii. Do ustalenia motywów posłużyła teza Thomasa Baudinette'a na temat wykorzystania elementów japońskich BL i lakornu w celu glokalizacji BL na ziemi tajskiej oraz uzyskania aprobaty ze strony widowni docelowej – fujoshi. Praca rozważa w jaki sposób dane motywy nadal występują oraz jak/czy twórcy wykorzystują potencjał serii wai, w ukazaniu reprezentacji dla społeczności LGBT+ w Tajlandii.

This paper, by analyzing the 2gether and Bad Buddy series, shows how the tropes of the Thai BL (Boys Love) series, otherwise known as the wai series, have evolved. The series were selected based on popularity in 2020-2022, from GMMTV, which is one of Thailand's top publishers for the wai series. Thomas Baudinette's thesis on the use of Japanese BL elements and lakhorn to glocalise BL on Thai landscape and to gain approval from the target audience – fujoshi – was used to determine the tropes. This thesis considers how these tropes still exist and how / whether the creators use the potential of the wai series to represent the LGBT + community in Thailand.
