Celem pracy jest przedstawienie procesu tłumaczenia książki Tricii Hersey Rest is Resistance oraz refleksja nad wybranymi rozwiązaniami tłumaczeniowymi. Podstawy teoretyczne pracy są oparte na podejściu funkcjonalistycznym w tłumaczeniu. Rozdział pierwszy przybliża postać autorki książki oraz jej działalność aktywistyczną i przekonania, które przyczyniły się do napisania Rest is Resistance. Rozdział drugi zawiera podstawowe pojęcia i założenia teorii skoposu autorstwa Hansa J. Vermeera oraz funkcjonalnej typologii Christiane Nord. Stanowią one podstawę pod ustalenie celu tłumaczenia i wybór strategii tłumaczeniowych. Rozdział trzeci określa skopos tłumaczenia. W tym celu autorka bierze pod uwagę analizę tekstu źródłowego, kulturę docelowego tekstu oraz jego domniemanych odbiorców. Rozdział trzeci stanowi uzasadnienie wybranych decyzji tłumaczeniowych, takich jak: przekład powtarzających się słów kluczowych, zaimków czytelników oraz zjawisk charakterystycznych dla kultury źródłowej. Pracę zamyka lista wniosków oraz załączniki A i B. Pierwszy z nich to tłumaczenie przedmowy oraz wstępu książki Rest is Resistance Tricii Hersey. Drugi załącznik to te same fragmenty tekstu źródłowego.

My thesis aims to describe and reflect on my translation of Tricia Hersey’s Rest is Resistance. The theoretical background for my translation process is based on a functionalist approach to translation. Chapter One introduces the author of the self-help book, Tricia Hersey, and her activist work and set of beliefs that contributed to the writing of Rest is Resistance. Chapter Two defines the basic concepts of Hans J. Vermeer’s Skopos theory and Christiane Nord’s functional typology, which constitutes the basis for determining the purpose of the translation and choosing translational strategies. Chapter Three establishes the skopos of the translation. In order to do that the source text analysis, the target culture and the target addressees of the book are taken into consideration. Chapter Three also consists of a justification and reflection on the selected translational decisions, such as translating the book's recurring keywords, readers’ pronouns, and culture-specific information. The thesis closes with Conclusions and the Appendices A and B, which are the translation of the Preface and the Introduction of Tricia Hersey’s Rest is Resistance and the same parts of the source text respectively.
