Cultural and linguistic elements in the Swedish subtitles for the series "1670". A translational analysis

Tematem niniejszej pracy licencjackiej jest analiza translatologiczna szwedzkich napisów do serialu 1670 – satyrycznej komedii, której akcja rozgrywa się w XVII-wiecznej Polsce. Serial przedstawia próby utrzymania władzy i statusu przez rodzinę szlachecką, parodiując jednocześnie bieżące problemy społeczne.Część teoretyczna dotyczy tłumaczenia elementów kulturowych i napisów do filmów, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem teorii tłumaczeniowych Newmarka oraz Vinaya i Darbelneta. Istotnym komponentem teoretycznym jest rozdział poświęcony obrazowi wojny polsko-szwedzkiej 1655-1660 w kulturze polskiej i szwedzkiej – a dokładniej, różnicom w jej odbiorze.Część analityczna została podzielona na cztery kategorie: elementy historyczne, odniesienia kulturowe, a także przykłady związane ze Szwecją oraz Tatarami. Każda kategoria zawiera kilka analizowanych przykładów, a ich pełna lista znajduje się na końcu pracy.

This bachelor’s thesis focuses on the translation analysis of the Swedish subtitles for the TV series 1670—a satirical comedy set in 17th-century Poland. The series follows a noble family's efforts to maintain their power and status while humorously addressing contemporary social issues.The theoretical part explores the translation of cultural elements and audiovisual subtitling, with particular emphasis on the theories of Peter Newmark and Vinay and Darbelnet. A key component of this section is a chapter examining the portrayal of the Polish-Swedish War (1655–1660) in both Polish and Swedish cultures, with special attention to the differences in historical perception.The analytical section is divided into four categories: historical elements, cultural references, and examples related to Sweden and the Tatars. Each category includes several analyzed cases, with a complete list provided at the end of the thesis.
