Konstruowanie obcości w tłumaczeniu: „Dukla” Andrzeja Stasiuka w angielskim przekładzie Billa Johnstona

Głównym tematem pracy jest konstruowanie obcości w literaturze i w tłumaczeniu na podstawie powieści "Dukla" Andrzeja Stasiuka oraz jej angielskiego przekładu autorstwa Billa Johnstona. Analiza obejmuje poszczególne elementy stylu literackiego autora, które służą budowaniu poczucia obcości w tekście. Narzędzia stylistyczne zastosowane przez Stasiuka i stworzone za ich pomocą poetyckie obrazy zostały przeanalizowane z perspektywy językoznawstwa kognitywnego, a następnie porównane z technikami stylizacyjnymi Johnstona. Na podstawie obserwacji różnorodnych przykładów z powieści, wymieniono podstawowe trudności pojawiające się w przekładaniu konceptu obcości na inny język. Wśród nich są zarówno aspekty językowe, jak i kulturowe. Celem pracy jest zaobserwowanie, na jakich poziomach języka wyraża się obcość po polsku i po angielsku, a także czym różni się ostateczna wizja obcości ukazana przez pisarza i tłumacza w różnych językach.

The main interest of the thesis is the construction of foreignness in literature and translation on the basis of Andrzej Stasiuk's novel "Dukla" and its English translation by Bill Johnston. The analysis covers individual elements of the author's literary style, which serve to build the sense of otherness in the text. The stylistic devices used by Stasiuk and the poetic images they create were analyzed from the perspective of cognitive linguistics and then compared with Johnston's stylistic techniques. Based on the observation of various examples from the novel, one listed the basic difficulties of translating the concept of foreignness. Among them are both linguistic and cultural aspects. The study's goal is to observe the language levels at which the sense of otherness is expressed in Polish and English as well as the divergencies between the final visions of foreignness presented by the writer and the translator in two different languages
