Biological, ethical and legal aspects of xenotransplantation.

Rozwój nauk biomedycznych doprowadził do wzrostu zainteresowania badaczy zagadnieniami związanymi z przeszczepianiem ludziom narządów pochodzenia zwierzęcego, czyli tzw. ksenotransplantacjami. Dzięki wprowadzeniu tej procedury zostałby wyeliminowany największy problem, z jakim zmaga się współczesna transplantologia, a jest nim niedobór dawców organów do przeszczepu wobec ogromnego zapotrzebowania biorców oczekujących na długich listach. Zabieg ksenotransplantacji pozwoliłby przedłużyć życie tysiącom chorych potrzebujących organów do przeszczepu, a także mógłby dać szansę na efektywne leczenie chorób dziś jeszcze nieuleczanych jak np. choroba Alzheimera czy Parkinsona. Niemniej jednak zabieg ksenotransplantacji budzi wiele zastrzeżeń i niepokojów natury etyczno-moralnej dotyczących podejścia ludzi do otrzymywania zwierzęcych organów oraz hodowli transgenicznych osobników świni domowej i zabijania ich w celu pobrania organów, co przez wielu uważane jest za zbytnie uprzedmiotowienie żyjących i odczuwających istot. Dlatego też ze względu na dobro zarówno pacjentów jak i zwierząt ważne jest ustanowienie szczegółowych regulacji prawnych, które będą zabezpieczać przed wszelkimi nadużyciami.

The development of biomedical sciences has led to increased interest in scientific issues related to the transplantation of animal organs to people, i.e. xenotransplantations. With the introduction of this procedure have been eliminated biggest problem that faces modern transplantology and that is the shortage of donor organs for transplant recipients to the huge demand on long waiting lists. Xenotransplantation procedure would extend the lives of thousands of patients in need of organs for transplant and would give a chance for effective treatment of diseases even today incurable such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's. However, treatment of xenotransplantation raises many concerns and anxieties ethical and moral nature concerning the approach of people to receive animal organs and breeding of transgenic domestic pig and kill them to collect the organs, which by many is considered excessive objectification of living and sentient beings. Therefore, in the interests of both patients and animals, it is important to establish detailed regulations that will protect against any overuse.
