Wandering dramaturgies on the example of ‘The Winter’s Tale’ by William Shakespeare

Twórczość Williama Szekspira, z racji rozpoznawalności i autorytetu, służy jako doskonały materiał do przeróbek, parafraz i adaptacji, a scenariusze Szekspirowskie ubierane są na przestrzeni wieków w coraz to inne formy, narracje, realia i język. Na przykładzie wariacji na temat "Zimowej opowieści" - jej pierwowzoru, czyli romansu Roberta Greene’a "Pandosto. Triumf czasu" oraz współczesnej powieściowej adaptacji Jeanette Winterson "Przepaść czasu. Zimowa opowieść" - autorka bada ich wspólny scenariusz, który określa jako "dramaturgię wędrującą" i zestawia ze "scenario" w ujęciu Diany Taylor. Podczas gdy sytuacje i konflikty "Zimowej opowieści" zyskują nowy kształt i artystyczną konkretyzację, ich dramaturgia pozostaje niezmienna. Powtarzający się w utworach scenariusz winy i przebaczenia, interpretowany w kontekście rodzinnym, religijnym i politycznym, stanowi przykład scenariusza kulturowego, który odzwierciedla trwałe modele zachowań i sposoby rozwiązywania konfliktu, a jako paradygmat ludzkich działań podlega nieustannej reprodukcji, zarówno w twórczości artystycznej, jak i w rzeczywistości.

The works of William Shakespeare, due to their recognition and authority, serve as excellent material for alterations, paraphrases and adaptations, and Shakespeare’s scripts are dressed over the centuries in ever different forms, narratives, realities and language. On the example of the variations of ‘The Winter’s Tale’ - its prototype, i.e. the romance by Robert Greene ‘Pandosto. The Triumph of Time’ and the contemporary novelist adaptation by Jeanette Winterson ‘The Gap of Time. The Winter’s Tale Retold’ - the author examines their common scenario, which she describes as "wandering drama" and juxtaposes it with the “scenario” according to Diana Taylor. While the situations and conflicts of ‘The Winter’s Tale’ take on a new shape and artistic concretization, their dramaturgy remains the same. The scenario of guilt and forgiveness recurring in the works, interpreted in a family, religious and political context, is an example of a cultural scenario that reflects persistent models of behavior and conflict resolution, and as a paradigm of human action it is constantly reproduced, both in artistic creation and in reality.
