Cultural heritage in Syria in the face of civil war

Tematem pracy jest dziedzictwo kulturowe w Syrii w obliczu wojny domowej, a jej celem analiza zależności między sytuacją polityczną w kraju a stanem i ochroną dziedzictwa kulturowego. Praca przedstawia wybrane obiekty z Listy światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO na terenie Syrii oraz opisuje zagrożenie w jakim się znalazły, oraz zniszczenia jakim uległy od początku wojny domowej.Praca składa się ze wstępu, zakończenia oraz trzech rozdziałów na przestrzeni których temat zostaje przeanalizowany. Pierwszy rozdział poświęcony jest historii Syrii sprzed wybuchu wojny domowej, wskazuje genezę i uwarunkowania jej wybuchu oraz jej przebieg. Kolejny rozdział opisuje Syrię na mapie światowego dorobku cywilizacyjnego, przybliża organizację UNESCO oraz wyszczególnia trzy obiekty z Listy światowego dziedzictwa. Ostatni rozdział opisuje zniszczenia dokonane w trakcie wojny domowej, podejmuje temat ochrony i odbudowy dziedzictwa naturalnego, wyszczególniając kampanie i projekty UNESCO.

The subject of presented thesis is cultural heritage in Syria in the face of civil war, while it’s purpose is to analyze the relationship between the political situation in the country and condition and protection of cultural heritage. This thesis presents selected objects from the UNESCO’s World Heritage List in Syria and describes danger in which they have been and destruction they have suffered since the beginning of the civil war.This thesis consists of an introduction, ending and three chapters over which the subject is analyzed. The first chapter is devoted to the history of Syria before the outbreak of the civil war, indicates the genesis and determinants of its outbreak and its course. The next chapter describes Syria on the map of the world civilizational achievements, introduces the UNESCO organization and lists three objects from the World Heritage List. The last chapter describes the damage done during the civil war, deals with the protection and restoration of the natural heritage, detailing UNESCO campaigns and projects.
