Praca ma na celu zarysowanie problemu jakim jest wybór odpowiednich materiałów budowlanych w remontach zabytkowych obiektów. Dyskusji poddano możliwości i przeszkody stosowania współczesnych materiałów i technologii budowlanych w obiektach wykonanych według dawnych technik. Powinny one pozostawać w zgodzie doktryną konserwatorską, względami ekonomicznymi, a także uwzględniać zjawisko poszerzania się pojęcia zabytku. Doktryna konserwatorska musi uwzględniać środki, jakie są w dyspozycji. Jest to stwierdzenie niezwykle ważne, ponieważ „moda na nowoczesność” ma także wymiar technologiczny. Obecnie daje się zauważyć gwałtowny rozwój rynku materiałów budowlanych. Odpowiedni ich dobór jest konieczny dla prawidłowego zachowania i trwania obiektów zabytkowych. Z zagadnieniem tym wiążą się dwa zasadnicze problemy konserwatorskie. Pierwszym z nich są kryteria związane z trwaniem zabytku w czasie, dotyczą zagadnień kompatybilności i odwracalności. Drugie z nich dotyczą autentyzmu zabytku: substancji zabytkowej, formy, konstrukcji, technologii, a także zagadnień skupiających się wokół teorii tożsamości sformułowanych z psychologicznego i socjologicznego punku widzenia, związanego z emocjami, interpretowanymi jako zjawisko fenomenologiczne.

The essay presents reflections of the importance of building materials use in repairs of the historic buildings. Sometimes using a traditional materials is impossible. Proper activity in this situation could be application of modern technology and materials, on condition that it remains the doctrine, economy and the scope of the concept of monument. Doctrine defines the ways of actions which are necessary for the theory. Restoration doctrine should take into consideration the available measures. It is very important because today we can notice a huge popularity of modern technologies. On the market nowadays we can see rapidly increasing number of new materials and technologies. The technical wear necessitates replacement. Proper selection is very important to preserve the historic value of the monument. The main topic is a discussion about possibilities and obstacles of using new building materials. It concern in objects made of traditional technologies. The materials are largery responsible for maintaining the architecture of the original message. There are two fundamental problems of renovation connected with this issue. The first ones are criteria connected with the lasting in time – compatibility and reversibility. The second leads in the consequence to the problems of authenticity: tissue, form, construction, technology, also to the issues of architectural identity extrapolated for the theory of identify formulated by psychological and sociological sciences, with the role of emotions, interpreted in the phenomenological way.
