Problemy Tłumaczenia Poezji na Przykładzie „Kruka” Edgara Allan Poe’go

Celem niniejszej pracy jest omówienie problemów związanych z tłumaczeniem poezji oraz sposobów radzenia sobie z nimi. Pierwszy rozdział opisuje kwestię nieprzekładalności poezji, uzasadniając powszechność takiego przekonania. Ponadto omówiono zastosowanie teorii ekwiwalencji w kontekście tłumaczenia poezji z uwzględnieniem teorii Eugene'a Nidy, Petera Newmarka, Romana Jakobsona i Wernera Kollera. Rozdział drugi poświęcony jest problemom związanym z tłumaczeniem poezji i przedstawia ogólne strategie radzenia sobie z nimi, prezentując również praktyczne podejścia, takie jak koncepcja dominanty semantycznej autorstwa Stanisława Barańczaka. W rozdziale uwzględniono również znaczenie zachowania języka metaforycznego, struktury i warstwy dźwiękowej tłumaczonego wiersza. W rozdziale trzecim pokazano, w jaki sposób Zenon Przesmycki i Stanisław Barańczak przełożyli „Kruka” Edgara Allana Poego. Rozdział omawia elementy gatunku gotyckiego, styl autora i jego poglądy na tworzenie poezji dostarczając kontekstu potrzebnego do analizy wiersza. „Filozofia kompozycji” została również przeanalizowana w rodziale, ponieważ zawiera informacje o procesie tworzenia „Kruka”, dostarczając tłumaczom istotnych wskazówek.

This thesis aims to discuss problems of poetry translation and different approaches to dealing with those problems. The first chapter describes the issue of untranslatability of poetry, presenting reasons for such a view. The applicability of equivalence theory in the poetry translation context is discussed together with the overview of theories by Eugene Nida, Peter Newmark, Roman Jakobson, and Werner Koller. The second chapter focuses on problems of poetry translation and provides overall strategies for dealing with them as well as presents more practical approaches, such as the concept of semantic dominant by Stanisław Barańczak. The importance of transferring metaphorical language, the structure, and musicality of the poem is also taken into consideration. The third chapter aims to demonstrate how Zenon Przesmycki and Stanisław Barańczak dealt with the translation of “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe. The chapter also provides an important context for the analysis of the poem, discussing the elements of the Gothic genre, the style of the author, and his views on poetry creation. “The Philosophy of Composition” was also examined, as it contains information about the process of creating ”The Raven” providing vital guidance for a translator
