The English Way in the Contemporary Phenomenon of Camino de Santiago in the Years 2004-2018

Droga św. Jakuba (ang. The Way of Saint James, hiszp. Camino de Santiago) jest jednym z najważniejszych, chrześcijańskich szlaków pielgrzymkowych i pierwszym Europejskim Szlakiem Kulturowym. Przedmiotem badań do pracy licencjackiej jest Droga Angielska (Camino Inglés), czyli jeden ze szlaków biegnącego z północnego wybrzeża Galicji do Santiago de Compostela. W pracy scharakteryzowano współczesny fenomen tego odcinka szlaków Jakubowych w latach 2004-2018 na podstawie danych udostępnionych przez biuro obsługi pielgrzyma w Santiago de Compostela oraz przeprowadzonych badań ankietowych, poszerzonej o literaturę przedmiotu w tym wspomnienia caminowiczów i ich uwagi na stronach tematycznych oraz blogach. Autorka dokonuje klasyfikacji oraz analizy danych statystycznych w celu przedstawienia wyjątkowości Drogi Angielskiej we współczesnym fenomenie Camino de Santiago, a także przedstawienia motywów towarzyszącym pielgrzymom decydującym się na przejście tej drogi. Popularność Camino Inglés dynamicznie rośnie, co jest wynikiem świadomych decyzji i wyborów pielgrzymów.

The Way of Saint James is one of the most important Christian pilgrimage route and the first European Cultural Route. The subject of the thesis and research project is The English Road (Camino Inglés), one of the routes running from the northern coast of Galicia to Santiago de Compostela. The characterizes the The English Way in the contemporary phenomenon of Camino de Santiago in the years 2004-2018 on the basis of data provided by the pilgrim service office in Santiago de Compostela and surveys conducted, extended by the literature on the subject, including the memories of the Camino Inglés and their comments on the websites and blogs. The author classifies and analyses statistical data in order to present the uniqueness of the English Way in the contemporary phenomenon of the Camino de Santiago, as well as to present the motives accompanying the pilgrims who decide to go along the path. It was concluded that from year to year the popularity of Camino Inglés is growing dynamically, which is the result of conscious decisions and choices of pilgrims.
