Air transport as a determinant of tourism development in Poland

Celem głównym pracy jest analiza działalności pasażerskiego transportu lotniczego jako jednej z głównych determinant wpływających na rozwój turystyki w Polsce wraz ze wskazaniem koniecznych dostosowań tej gałęzi transportu do potrzeb rynku usług turystycznych. Hipoteza zakłada, iż transport lotniczy stanowi czynnik warunkujący wielkość i strukturę ruchu turystycznego oraz rozwój gospodarki turystycznej w Polsce. Część teoretyczna pracy odnosi się do zagadnień związanych z transportem oraz turystyką. Część badawcza dotyczy oceny wpływu transportu lotniczego na rozwój turystyki w Polsce. W części postulatywnej natomiast wskazano możliwości i kierunki rozwoju transportu lotniczego. Badanie zostało wykonane za pomocą ilościowej i jakościowej analizy materiału wtórnego. Podstawowy materiał badawczy w zakresie wielkości pasażerskiego ruchu lotniczego w Polsce stanowiła baza danych ULC, natomiast źródło informacji o wielkości zagranicznego ruchu turystycznego przyjazdowego do Polski, liczbie i strukturze turystów zagranicznych oraz wielkości poniesionych przez nich wydatków - baza danych GUS oraz Polskiego Instytutu Ekonomicznego. Dane uzupełniono informacjami dotyczącymi działalności portów oraz linii lotniczych, zawartymi na stronach internetowych, w raportach branżowych oraz publikacjach związanych z tematyką pasażerskiego transportu lotniczego. Całość podjętych analiz, jak również zasadniczy pod względem weryfikacji hipotezy dodatni wynik współczynnika korelacji Pearsona (Rp = 0.73), wykazujący silną zależność między liczbą turystów zagranicznych przybyłych do Polski transportem lotniczym, a łącznymi wpływami dewizowymi z zagranicznej turystyki przyjazdowej, potwierdzają zdecydowany wpływ transportu lotniczego na wielkość ruchu turystycznego i rozwój turystyki w Polsce. Można wnioskować, że transport lotniczy w największym stopniu kształtuje zagraniczną turystykę przyjazdową do Polski warunkując wzrost gospodarki turystycznej kraju.

The main aim of the work is to analyze the activity of passenger air transport as one of the main determinants influencing the development of tourism in Poland, along with an indication of the necessary adaptations of this mode of transport to the needs of the tourist services market. The hypothesis assumes that air transport is a factor that determines the size and structure of tourism and the development of the tourism economy in Poland. The theoretical part of the work relates to issues related to transport and tourism. The research part concerns the assessment of the impact of air transport on the development of tourism in Poland. In the postulative part, the possibilities and directions for the development of air transport were indicated. The study was performed using the quantitative and qualitative analysis of secondary material. The basic research material regarding the volume of passenger air traffic in Poland was the database of the Civil Aviation Authority, while the source of information on the volume of foreign tourist traffic coming to Poland, the number and structure of foreign tourists and the amount of expenses incurred by them - the database of the Central Statistical Office and the Polish Economic Institute. The data was supplemented with information on the activities of airports and airlines, contained on websites, in industry reports and publications related to the subject of passenger air transport. The entirety of the analyzes undertaken, as well as the positive result of the Pearson correlation coefficient (Rp = 0.73), which is essential in terms of verification of the hypothesis, showing a strong relationship between the number of foreign tourists arriving in Poland by air transport, and the total foreign exchange inflows from foreign inbound tourism, confirm the decisive influence of air transport on the volume of tourist traffic and the development of tourism in Poland. It can be concluded that air transport to the greatest extent shapes foreign inbound tourism to Poland, conditioning the growth of the country's tourism economy.
