The natural disasters and astronomical phenomena in the 12th Book of the Annals of Jan Długosz

Celem pracy magisterskiej było prześledzenie wzmianek o klęskach elementarnych i zjawiskach astronomicznych w dwunastej księdze Roczników czyli Kronik sławnego Królestwa Polskiego Jana Długosza.Praca została podzielona na trzy rozdziały. W pierwszym z nich autorka, opierając się na życiorysie i dziełach Długosza, przedstawia kronikarza jako obserwatora przyrody. W drugim rozdziale zostały przedstawione klęski elementarne wspomniane w dwunastej księdze: epidemie, nadzwyczajne zimy i lata, szarańcze, trzęsienia ziemi i pożary. W trzecim zostały omówione zjawiska astronomiczne. Zgromadzone dane zostały przedstawione także w formie tabel i wykresów.Informacje o zjawiskach przyrodniczych są ważnym elementem historii gospodarczej, społecznej i politycznej.

The aim of this dissertation was presenting the natural disasters and astronomical phenomena mentioned in the 12th Book of The Annals or Chronicles of the Famous Kingdom of Poland of Jan Długosz.The work was divided into three chapters. In the first one the author presents Jan Długosz as a nature observer and answers the question: what was the chronicler’s attitude to the natural phenomena? In the second chapter were presented the mentions of the natural disasters: the epidemics, the extraordinary winters and summers, the locust plagues, the earthquakes and the fires. In the third chapter were discussed the mentions about the astronomical phenomena. The statistical data in the second and third chapters were presented in table and graph form.The knowledge about the natural phenomena in the past is important to economic, social and political history.
