The influence of emotional intelligence on strategies for managing with difficult situations

Przedmiot rozważań niniejszej pracy dotyczy wpływu inteligencji emocjonalnej na strategie radzenia sobie w trudnych sytuacjach. W dzisiejszych czasach zjawisko stresu jest wszechobecne, dlatego też konstruktywne sposoby zwalczania go są niezwykle ważne. Celem pracy była weryfikacja zależności między wyodrębnionymi rodzajami strategii, a inteligencją emocjonalną. Zostało w niej również, wykazane zróżnicowanie w sposobach radzenia sobie w sytuacjach trudnych. Badania zostały przeprowadzone za pomocą Kwestionariusza Inteligencji Emocjonalnej INTE oraz kwestionariusza Richarda Lazarusa dotyczącego strategii radzenia sobie. Grupę badawczą stanowili studenci kierunków Inżynieria Materiałowa i Metalurgia. Badania zostały przeprowadzone na Wydziale Metali Nieżelaznych Akademii Górniczo – Hutniczej w Krakowie. Analiza czynnikowa wyników badań pokazała, że najczęstszą strategią stosowaną przez studentów, o technicznym profilu kształcenia, jest planowanie rozwiązania problemu, a następnie fantazjowanie oraz poszukiwanie wsparcia społecznego. Badania pokazały, że istnieją istotne związki między inteligencją emocjonalną a rodzajami strategii wśród studentów. Wysoki poziom tego rodzaju inteligencji implikuje takie konstruktywne działania, jak podejście problemowe oraz poszukiwanie wsparcia ze strony innych osób. Fantazjowanie, dystansowanie się oraz konfrontacja są powiązane z niskim poziomem inteligencji emocjonalnej.

The subject of this Master's Thesis deals with the influence of emotional intelligence on strategies of manage with difficult situations. As today stress seems to be ubiquitous, constructive ways to combat it are extremely important. The aim of this study was to verify the relationship between distinct types of manage with unusual situations and emotional intelligence. The research demonstrated also differentiation in ways to deal with difficult situations. The study was conducted using the INTE Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire and the Richard Lazarus questionnaire on methods of dealing with unusual situations. The research group consisted of students of Materials Engineering and Metallurgy. The research was carried out at the Department of Non-Ferrous Metals at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow. The factors analysis of the results showed that in manage with stressful situations the most common strategy used by students with a technical education profile, was to plan the solution to the problem, then fantasize and seek social support. Additionally, paper has illustrated that there are significant relationships between emotional intelligence and manage with unusual situations. The high level of this kind of intelligence implies such constructive actions as the problematic approach and seeking support from others. Fantasies, distances and confrontations correlate with low levels of emotional intelligence.
