Jungian inspirations in the works of Hermann Hesse on the basis of Demian and Steppenwolf

Celem niniejszej pracy jest ukazanie wpływu wybranych aspektów psychologii Carla Gustava Junga na twórczość Hermanna Hessego, na przykładzie dwóch wybranych powieści: Demian oraz Wilk stepowy. Opisane w pracy zagadnienia dotyczą szeroko pojętego rozwoju osobowości będącego istotą dorobku literackiego pisarza. Zwrócono uwagę na historyczne ujęcie człowieka i jego życia psychicznego, począwszy od antyku po wiek dwudziesty. Przedstawiono również biografię autora, ważną dla zrozumienia kontekstu oraz genezy przytoczonych powieści. Na koniec pracy poddano dokładnej analizie wybrane teksty, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem pojawiających się elementów psychologii analitycznej.

The aim of this thesis is to show the influence of selected aspects of Carl Gustav Jung's psychology on Hermann Hesse's work, using two selected novels as examples: Demian and Steppenwolf. The issues described in the thesis concern the broadly understood personality development, which is the essence of the writer's literary output. Attention is paid to the historical portrayal of man and his psychological life, from ancient times to the twentieth century. The author's biography, important for understanding the context and genesis of the novels cited, is also presented. At the end of the thesis, the selected texts are analysed in detail, with particular attention to the emerging elements of analytical psychology.
