Szymon Kobylinski: bibliography of literature and works

Szymon Kobyliński, an artist and a propagator of knowledge about history of culture, left an extensive and various output. Despite the widespread conviction in literature about the popularity of his person and importance of his achievements, there is lack of not only treatises on him, but even a complete register of his works. The main aim of this study is to create a preliminary outline of the field of study and to set up a starting point for further studies. The bibliography is the specification of literature on Kobyliński and his works related to the Polish book. Quantitative analysis reveal that most of his works in this field fall on ’80 and ’90 years of the XX age; this is also the time when he was written about the most. Illustration is the most often contribution of his into a book (96% of the cases), but he used to be also a writer and a translator. The popular statement about the versatility of subject matter, with predominance of historical and humoristic, taken up by him was verified and confirmed. Within the established limits, the study fills a part of the gap in the scientific literature, however far from depletion of the subject. Especially there is still need for gathering parallel registers of the artist’s works on remaining fields – press, radio, TV and other.

Szymon Kobyliński, artysta i popularyzator wiedzy o historii kultury, pozostawił obszerny i różnorodny dorobek twórczy. Pomimo powszechnego w literaturze przekonania o popularności tego twórcy i ważności jego dokonań, brak nie tylko poświęconych mu opracowań analitycznych, ale nawet kompletnego wykazu jego twórczości. Główną ideą pracy było wstępne określenie pola badawczego i utworzenie punktu wyjścia do dalszych badań. Bibliografia jest zestawieniem literatury poświęconej Kobylińskiemu oraz jego twórczości związanej z polską książką. Analizy statystyczne wykazały, że najwięcej jego dokonań na tym polu przypada na lata 80 i początek lat 90 XX wieku; wtedy też najwięcej pisano o nim. Najczęstszy jego wkład w książkę to ilustracje (96% przypadków), bywał też jednak autorem tekstów i tłumaczem. Zweryfikowano i potwierdzono wielokrotnie powtarzane w literaturze twierdzenie o wszechstronności podejmowanej przez niego tematyki, z przewagą historycznej i humorystycznej. W obrębie przyjętych założeń, praca wypełnia istotną część luki istniejącej w literaturze naukowej, daleka jest jednak od wyczerpania tematu. W szczególności konieczne pozostaje zebranie analogicznych opisów twórczości artysty na innych polach – prasowej, radiowej, telewizyjnej i pozostałych.
