Sytuacja ta wymaga adekwatnych i zdecydowanych działań profilaktycznych.
A summary of the thesis The aim of this master's thesis was to develop a diagnosis of the extent and severity of the phenomenon of addiction to computer and network games among students of a selected junior high school. The basic research tool was a questionnaire constructed on the basis of the internet addiction test Kimberly Young. Studies have shown that all respondents are everyday users of games, differing in the amount of time devoted to this form of entertainment and emotional involvement. The analysis of the results allowed to distinguish three basic groups of gaming users. One of these groups, about 32% of the surveyed population, are people who spend about 1 hour a day playing games and show no greater emotional involvement in this activity. Another group are game users devoting around six hours a day for this purpose. They are people experiencing various negative effects of their passion, treating playing like a stimulant, to help them alleviate negative emotions. Their functioning reveals "mechanisms" typical for addicts. This group can count about 18% of the population. The most numerous group (about 49%) are people who play from 2 to 4 hours a day, they occasionally experience negative effects of this activity, but are not yet emotionally addicted to it. Research confirms the increase in the threat of addiction to games and the growing percentage of addicted young people. This situation requires adequate and decisive preventive actions.
