Existential predication as an example of a language game

Naczelnym zadaniem niniejszej pracy jest próba przeprowadzenia pogłębionej i wieloaspektowejanalizy terminu „istnieć” w duchu teorii gier językowych Ludwiga Wittgensteina. Środkiem do tegocelu będzie zaś uwypuklenie mnogości generowanych przezeń problemów teoretycznych –szczególnie w kontekście praktyki orzekania egzystencjalnego. Źródeł tychże problemów dopatrujęsię w wielości sposobów użycia analizowanego wyrażenia. Pokazując ich daleko idącekonsekwencje – zarówno na płaszczyźnie semantycznej, jak i ontologicznej – wskazuję na niskąwartość eksplanacyjną różnych podejść teoretycznych, które odnoszą się do tego zagadnienia.Ostatecznie uznaję za zasadny pogląd, wedle którego termin „istnieć” nie wykazuje znaczącejwartości informatywnej, co z kolei prowadzi do przekonania, iż jako termin techniczny jest onzasadniczo bezużyteczny. Jednocześnie w jego miejsce pragnę zaproponować wyrosłe na stykufenomenologii i filozofii analitycznej, alternatywne ujęcie problematyki egzystencjalnej.

The main task of the thesis is the attempt to conduct an in-depth and multi-faceted analysis of theterm “exist” in the spirit of Ludwig Wittgenstein's theory of language games. The means for thiswill be to emphasize the multitude of theoretical problems genertated by it – especially in thecontext of the practice of existensial predication. I see the sources of these problems in multiplicityof ways of using the analyzed expression. Showing their far-reaching consequences - both semanticand ontological - I point to the low explanatory value of various theoretical approaches that relate tothis issue. In the end, I consider the view that the term “exit” does not have significant informativevalue, which in turn leads me to the belief that it is essentially useless as a technical term. At thesame time, I would like to propose an alternative approach to existential issues which has grown upat the interface between phenomenology and analytical philosophy.
