Persons with heterogeneous ethnic and national origin. Strategies and dilemmas of identity in the light of Anthony Giddens theory.

Niniejsza praca przedstawia strategie i dylematy tożsamościowe osób o heterogenicznym pochodzeniu etniczno-narodowym. Fundament przeprowadzonej analizy stanowią badania własne. Opierają się one na dwudziestu indywidualnych, pogłębionych wywiadach narracyjnych z osobami o mieszanym pochodzeniu etniczno-narodowym.Tło podjętego obszaru zagadnień stanowiła nie tylko teoria tożsamości Giddensa, ale i koncepcja jednostki na gruncie teorii strukturacji tegoż autora, a ponadto stan badań w dziedzinie tożsamości potomków mieszanych narodowościowo małżeństw. Obejmował on dylematy i strategie tożsamościowe oraz sposoby adaptacji do środowisk. W interpretacji wyników wykorzystano również inne koncepcje, między innymi dramatu uznania Aldony Jawłowskiej, człowieka marginesu R. E. Parka, czy walencji kulturowej Antoniny Kłoskowskiej. W pracy zostały zrealizowane dwa zasadnicze cele. Po pierwsze zostały scharakteryzowane tożsamości osób o mieszanych korzeniach pod kątem: realizowanych przez nich strategii tożsamościowych, związanych z identyfikacją narodowościową; spójności tożsamości; oraz poczucia sprawczości i kontroli nad życiem. Po drugie został zidentyfikowany związek między tożsamością a pochodzeniem z rodziny mieszanej narodowościowo oraz jego charakter. Posłużyło temu rozpoznanie dylematów tożsamościowych wśród badanych, a także sposobów radzenia sobie z nimi. Dodatkowo odkryte i wyjaśnione zostały związki zachodzące między doświadczeniem owych dylematów a stopniem integralności tożsamości i poczucia sprawczości.

This paper presents strategies and dilemmas of identity of persons with heterogeneous ethnic and national origin. The foundation of the analysis is qualitive research, based on twenty individual in-depth narrative interviews with people of mixed ethno-national origin. The background of undertaken area of issues was not only Giddens theory of identity, but also the concept of the individual on the basis of the structuration theory of the same author, and the current state of research in the area of ethnically and nationally mixed marriages descendants' identity. It includes the dilemmas and the strategies of identity and ways to adapt to the environment. In interpreting the results of the research there were also used some other concepts, including the Aldona Jawłowska recognition drama, R.E. Park margin man and Antonina Kłoskowska cultural valence. In the paper two main objectives were achieved. First, identity of persons with mixed origins were characterized: their identity strategies, which are associated with the national identification; coherence of identity and a sense of control over life. The second was identifiying a relationship between identity and the origin of the nationally or ethnically mixed family, and a character of the relationship.For this purpose the dilemmas of identity among the respondents were recognized, as well as ways of coping with them. Additionally, the relationships between the experience of these dilemmas and the degree of identity integrity and a sense of control over life were discovered and explained.
