The question of double religious belonging on the example of simultaneous followers of Buddhism and Christianity

Celem niniejszej pracy było ustalenie prawdopodobieństwa występowania podwójnej tożsamości religijnej. Grupą, która została zbadana w celu ustalenia prawdziwości tego zjawiska byli symultaniczni wyznawcy buddyzmu i chrześcijaństwa, o różnych stopniach afiliacji. Praca jest inspirowana coraz bardziej powszechnym eklektyzmem wiernych w doborze wyznawanych wartości, który często spowodowany jest ich niewystarczającą znajomością doktryn. Oprócz opracowania podstawowej terminologii z omawianej dziedziny, przedstawiony został również wpływ szeroko rozumianego środowiska zewnętrznego na obierane przez adherentów wyznania. Ponadto, zostały wysunięte dwie systematyzacje tożsamości religijnych. Podział uznany za bardziej precyzyjny, został wykorzystany przy okazji przeglądu przykładowych tożsamości religijnych z badanego zakresu. Przeprowadzona w kluczowej części pracy analiza przekonań potencjalnych symultanicznych wyznawców buddyzmu i chrześcijaństwa pomogła natomiast w ustaleniu kryteriów, jakie dany zwolennik musi spełniać, by jego poglądy pretendowały do miana podwójnej tożsamości religijnej. Fundamentalnym ustaleniem pracy jest stwierdzenie, że autentyczność omawianego fenomenu jest względna. Przedłożone zostały jednak argumenty, które mogą przekonać o faktyczności istnienia podwójnej przynależności religijnej, ewidentnych zwolenników tej koncepcji.

The main objective of this thesis was to determine the plausibility of double religious identity. The research group that was examined to ascertain the veracity of this phenomenon, consisted of simultaneous followers of Buddhism and Christianity, with special regard to the various degrees to which they felt affiliated. This dissertation was inspired by the believers' common perversion of the avowed values, which was likely to have been caused by the unclear comprehension of these doctrines. Elaboration of the relevant terminology, along with the influence of the broadly understood external factors on the beliefs chosen by the adherents, were both presented. Additionally, two systematizations have been delineated. The classification considered as more precise was used when perusing exemplars of religious identities from the studied domain. In the key part of the thesis, a scrutiny of the beliefs of potential simultaneous followers of Buddhism and Christianity was carried out. The usage of this method helped to determine the criteria that a given confessor must fulfill in order for his set of beliefs to aspire to be an actual double religious identity. The fundamental adjudication of the dissertation is the statement that the authenticity of the discussed phenomenon is deemed to be relative. Nevertheless, some arguments that may convince evident supporters of the thesis have been submitted, therefore: the existence of double religious affiliation may be, in certain circumstances, considered as plausible.
