Brexit and the migration of Poles to Great Britain

Celem pracy jest analiza sytuacji Polaków w Wielkiej Brytanii w świetle wydarzeń związanych z przegłosowaniem brexitu w 2016 roku. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów: pierwszy z nich porusza problematykę masowych migracji z Polski na Wyspy Brytyjskie zaraz po dołączeniu kraju do Unii Europejskiej w 2004 roku, skupia się na ludności polskiej na tamtejszym rynku pracy. Drugi rozdział jest wprowadzeniem do tematyki brexitu: zawiera informacje na temat jego początków, referendów, obaw i nadziei. Opisuje prognozowane zmiany, z którymi zmierzyć będzie musiała się nie tylko Polska, ale także kraje Zjednoczonego Królestwa czy Unii Europejskiej. Ostatni rozdział opisuje sytuację Polaków, wpływ brexitu na ich pozycje w społeczeństwie, prognozowane skutki i konsekwencje, a także ich postawy wobec zaistniałych wydarzeń. Praca ukazuje zmiany jakie zaszły na przestrzeni lat w migracji Polaków do Wielkiej Brytanii. Brexit ma znaczący wpływ na dotychczasowe życie Polaków na obczyźnie: pracę, edukację, życie codzienne. Niesie za sobą także serię utrudnień w postaci wiz, statusów osiedleńczych czy zaproszeń od pracodawców. Wyjazdy i dotychczas możliwe „szukanie pracy na miejscu” nie mają już prawa bytu. Głównym celem pracy było nakreślenie zmian, jakie przyniesie opuszczenie struktur unijnych, a także próba nakreślenia konsekwencji i prognoz. Zakończenie stanowi podsumowanie całej pracy, potwierdzenie i obalenie podstawionych hipotez. Praca powstała na podstawie raportów, literatury, artykułów, statystyk oraz własnych doświadczeń.

The aim of the study is to analyze the situation of Poles in Great Britain in the light of the events related to the Brexit vote in 2016. The work consists of three chapters: the first one deals with the issue of mass migrations from Poland to the Islands immediately after joining the European Union in 2004, and focuses on the Polish population in the local labor market. The second chapter is an introduction to Brexit: it provides information on its origins, referenda, fears and hopes. It describes the projected changes that not only Poland will have to face, but also the countries of the United Kingdom and the European Union. The last chapter as the essence of the work describes the situation of Poles, the impact of Brexit on their position in society, the projected effects and consequences, as well as their attitudes towards the events that took place. The work shows the changes that have taken place over the years in the migration of Poles to Great Britain. Brexit has a significant impact on the life of Poles living abroad: work, education, and everyday life. It also entails a series of difficulties in the form of visas, settlement statuses or invitations from employers. Trips and the hitherto possible "job search on the spot" no longer exist. The main purpose of the work was to outline the changes that Brexit will bring, as well as an attempt to outline the consequences and forecasts. The ending is a summary of all the work, confirmation and refutation of the hypotheses.The work was created on the basis of reports, literature, articles, statistics and own experiences.
