Mechanisms of epileptic seizures.

The aim of the present paper was to review current knowledge about the neurochemical mechanisms of epileptic seizures. Special emphasis was put on the neurotransmitter systems: glutamatergic and GABA-ergic, but the role of other factors (calcium mechanisms, genetic and immunological factors and regulatory functions of the other neuropeptides) was also discussed. Indicated a relationship beetween hippocampal formation and the phenomenon of epileptogenesis, basic information on the neurophysiology of the cerebral cortex,neurotransmitters and put the current classification of epileptic syndromes.
Celem niniejszej pracy jest przegląd aktualnego stanu wiedzy na temat neurochemicznych mechanizmów powstawania drgawek epileptycznych. Szczególny nacisk położono na układy neuroprzekaźnikowe: glutaminergiczny oraz GABA-ergiczny, jednakże rola innych czynników (mechanizmy wapniowe, czynniki genetyczne i immunologiczne a także funkcje regulatorowe innych neuropeptydów) także została uwzględniona. W pracy tej zaznaczono szczególny związek formacji hipokampalnej ze zjawiskiem epileptogenezy, przytoczono podstawowe informacje na temat neurofizjologii kory mózgowej, neurotransmiterów oraz zamieszczono aktualną klasyfikację zespołów padaczkowych.
