"Japanese tattoo - art or taboo?"

Tatuaż jest zjawiskiem znanym na całym świecie. Przez jednych uważany za akt wulgaryzmu a przez innych jako formę sztuki. Aczkolwiek żadna z form dekorowania ciała nie jest tak wyjątkowa i tak bardzo bliska sztuce jak tatuaż japoński. Przez swoją długą historię , niezwykłą, tradycyjną technikę wykonania oraz odniesienia do drzeworytów japońskich Ukio - e stanowi jedną z najbardziej wysublimowanych form tatuażu na świecie. Celem tej pracy jest przedstawienie zjawiska tatuażu pod względem kulturowym i historycznym.

Tattooing is the most popular form of body modification In the world. For some people it is an act of vulgarism, but for the others it can be a form of art. Although, any form of body decoration is not as much unique and so close to form of art as Japanese tattoo. By its long history, unusual , traditional technique of implementation and references to Japanese woodblock prints Ukiyo – e it is one of the most sophisticated form of tattooing in the world. The purpose of this paper is to present Japanese tattoo phenomenon in cultural and historical terms.
