Tłumaczenie elementów kulturowych w literaturze dziecięcej. Analiza na podstawie książek "Le Petit Nicolas" i "Les Vacances du Petit Nicolas" oraz ich polskich i angielskich przekładów

Niniejsza praca magisterska skupia się na przekładzie literatury dziecięcej oraz elementach kulturowych, na które może natrafić tłumacz w procesie tłumaczenia, a także strategiach i technikach, które może wykorzystać tłumacz w swoim przekładzie. Głównym problemem, na który autorka pracy chciała zwrócić uwagę jest złożoność prezentowanego tematu, która wynika przede wszystkim z drugorzędnej roli literatury dziecięcej, a także specyfiki odbiorcy tekstu – dziecka (a także i dorosłego) – która w pewnym stopniu wpływa na wybory dokonywane przez tłumacza. Niniejsza praca została podzielona na dwie główne części – teoretyczną i praktyczną. Część teoretyczna składa się z dwóch rozdziałów, a praktyczna z jednego. W części teoretycznej w pierwszym rozdziale autorka pracy opisuje sytuację literatury dziecięcej, zarys badań nad przekładem owej literatury, a także w skrócie przedstawia sytuację literatury dziecięcej na tle historycznym. Dodatkowo autorka pracy podkreśla specyfikę odbiorcy takich książek – czy faktycznie jest to tylko dziecko, czy może także i dorosły.Głównym tematem drugiego rozdziału niniejszej pracy magisterskiej są aspekty kulturowe w przekładzie. Przedstawiony został zarys zwrotu kulturowego, który miał miejsce w przekładoznawstwie, a także strategie i techniki, jakimi tłumacz może się posłużyć tłumacząc teksty, w których pojawiają się elementy kultury źródłowej. Zwrócono również uwagę na nieprzekładalność niektórych elementów kulturowych, a także na fakt, że tłumaczenie odgrywa ważną rolę w dialogu międzykulturowym.Kolejny rozdział jest rozdziałem praktycznym. Jego pierwsza część jest poświęcona książkom Les Petit Nicolas oraz Les Vacances du Petit Nicolas Jeana Jacques’a Sempégo oraz Renégo Goscinnego. Książki te zostały wzięte na warsztat wraz z ich tłumaczeniami na język polski oraz angielski. W skrócie zarysowano fabułę i przedstawiono niektóre informacje związane z tłumaczeniem tychże książek. W drugiej części trzeciego rozdziału wybrane fragmenty zostały poddane analizie porównawczej. Głównym założeniem części analitycznej było sprawdzenie, z których strategii i technik korzystały tłumaczki przy tłumaczeniu książek na język polski i angielski. Wybrane fragmenty książek zawierające elementy kulturowe zostały przeanalizowane, porównano tłumaczenia polskie z angielskimi i wyciągnięto pewne wnioski.

The thesis entitled "Cultural Aspects in Translation of Children’s Literature – An Analysis Based on the French Books Le Petit Nicolas and Les Vacances du Petit Nicolas and Their Polish and English Translations" focuses on the translation of children’s literature and cultural problems that the translator may encounter in the translation process, as well as strategies and techniques that the translator may use in his or her process of translation. The main problem that the author wanted to draw attention to is the complexity of the topic presented, which results mainly from the secondary position of children’s literature, as well as the specificity of the recipient of the text – it is not only a child but may also be an adult – and this fact influences to some extent the choices made by the translator.This thesis has been divided into two main parts. The theoretical part consists of two chapters and the second part, the practical one, consists of one chapter. In the theoretical part in the first chapter, the author explains what children’s literature is, presents an outline of the research on translating such literature, and also briefly presents the history of children’s literature. In addition, the author of the work emphasizes the specificity of the recipient of such books who may be not only a child but also an adult.The main topic of the second chapter of this thesis is: cultural aspects in translation. It presents the main assumptions of the Cultural Turn that took place in TS in the 70s of the twentieth century, as well as the strategies and techniques that can be used by translators when translating texts in which elements of the source culture appear. Attention was also paid to the untranslatability of some cultural elements and to the fact that translation plays an important role in intercultural dialogue.The next chapter is an analytical chapter. Its first part is devoted to the books Les Petit Nicolas and Les Vacances du Petit Nicolas by Jean Jacques Sempé and René Goscinny. What is more, the plot is briefly described, and some information related to the translations of these books is presented. In the second part of this chapter, some of the fragments of these books as well as their translations were quoted as examples allowing to analyse and compare the strategies and techniques used by translators of children’s literature when they meet culture-specific items in the text. The main objective of the analytical part was to check which strategies and techniques are most often used by translators of children’s books into Polish as well as English. At the end of this thesis, the author presents final conclusions about this phenomenon.
