Policy of Ronald Reagan toward the Soviet Union and Poland in 1981-1989 according to the weekly magazine “Polityka"

Niniejsza praca pod tytułem " Polityka Ronalda Reagana wobec ZSRR i Polski w latach 1981-1989 w świetle opinii tygodnika "Polityka" przedstawia stosunki Stanów Zjednoczonych i ZSRR na przestrzeni lat osiemdziesiątych.We wstępie pracy przedstawiono karierę Ronalda Reagana począwszy od hollywoodzkiego aktora aż po zawód polityka.Kolejny rozdział poświęcony jest historii polityki zagranicznej prezydenta Reagana. Przedstawiono w nim podstawowe założenia działań amerykańskiej administracji wobec komunizmu w początkach lat osiemdziesiątych. Założenia te opierały się na zwiększeniu zbrojenia i niedopuszczeniu do uzyskania przewagi w tej kwestii Związku Radzieckiego. Z biegiem czasu kwestie te uległy zmianie, które finalnie doprowadziły do upadku komunizmu.Praca licencjacka skupia się także na znaczeniu naszego państwa w konflikcie na linii USA-ZSRR. Praca ma pokazać, iż obrana przez Reagana intensywna polityka zagraniczna wobec Związku Radzieckiego, ma swoje konsekwencję w relacjach polsko-amerykańskich. W tej kwestii korzystano z korespondencji polskich dziennikarzy przebywających w USA w ówczesnych latach. W pracy załączone są także opinie przedstawicieli ówczesnych władz PRL, które negują stanowisko Reagana, a także krytykują decyzję o nałożeniu sankcji na nasze państwo w grudniu 1981 roku.

This thesis is entitled "Policy of Ronald Reagan toward the Soviet Union and Poland in 1981-1989 according to the weekly magazine “Polityka” and shows the relationship between the two empires in the eighties.The introduction presents the career of Ronald Reagan from the Hollywood actor to politician. Next chapter shows the history of the foreign policy of President Reagan. It presents the basic issues of the U.S. government actions against communism in the early eighties. These issues are based on the rearmament and the elimination of advantages, in this case the Soviet Union. Over the course of the years these issues have changed and finally led to collapse of communism.This Thesis focuses also on the meaning of our country in conflict between the USA and the USSR. The research paper presents Reagan’s foreign policy towards Soviet Union, which consequently results in contact of the USA with Poland. As far as this point is concerned the correspondence of Polish journalists is used, who had been residing in the United States in those years. Furthermore, the thesis includes opinions of the representatives of the local authorities of the communist regime, who critized Reagan’s decision about the imposition of sanctions on our country in December, 1981.
