The Czech dream about the structuralism (after the year 1948)

The study concerns the problem of Czech structuralism viewed as a one of the "Czech dreams" (the term of Vladimír Macura which in general means a national myth). The article describes the Czech structural theory as a part of the national identity and national imaginary in the second half of the 20th century. The author focuses specifically on the process of semiosis of the structuralism in post-war Czechoslovakia, especially on its evaluation in the communistic propaganda and its relation to Marxists theory. The problem of its connection and with the post-structural literary theory is also undertaken. The paper ends with a description of the role, position and evaluation of the structuralism in Czech literary theory after the year 1989.
