Innovation and tradition. The portrayal of Behemoth in Mikhail Bulgakov's novel "The Master and Margarita"

Niniejsza praca dotyczy postaci Kota Behemota z utworu Michaiła Bułhakowa pt: "Mistrz i Małgorzata". Na podstawie cytatów z powieści, dokonana została zewnętrzna i wewnętrzna charakterystyka postaci, pokazano sposób postrzegania przez innych, a także poruszono kwestię etymologii jego imienia. By udowodnić nowatorstwo Behemota, podano kilka dziewiętnastowiecznych utworów literatury rosyjskiej takich autorów jak Aleksander Puszkin czy Antonij Pogorielski. Ponadto, by przybliżyć historię kotów, przedstawiono ich byt na podstawie różnych kultur i czasów.

This work deals with the figure of the Behemoth the Cat from Mikhail Bulgakov's novel "The Master and Margarita." Based on quotations from the novel, the external and internal characterisation of the figure, the way it was perceived by others, as well as the ethymology of his name were discussed. To prove the innovativeness of the character, several nineteenth-century works of Russian literature written by authors such as Alexander Pushkin and Antony Pogorelsky were given. In addition, to introduce the history of cats, their presence was presented on the basis of different cultures and times.
