The Venetian–Genoese Wars between 1256 and 1381

The theme of this BA thesis are the Venetian-Genoese wars that took place between 1257 and 1381. In the first chapter the causes of this long conflict are examined, as well as the general situation in both cities, starting from the IX century onwards. The following chapters take into examination all four conflicts, war by war, as well at the fighting techniques used by both sides, taking under consideration also the various alliances made during the wars. The thesis shows that although at the end of each war a winner was defined - on the military level - the peaces singed in 1270, 1299, 1355 and 1381 were not able to define any clear victorious or defeated side. The real beneficiaries of the last war were the Duke of Austria and the King of Hungary. Even though this historical subject is not extensively treated in Polish history books, this thesis can be a useful starting point for further analysis related to this topic.

Tematem niniejszej pracy licencjackiej są wojny wenecko-genueńskie toczące się w latach 1257-1381. W pierwszym rozdziale pracy zostały omówione przyczyny wybuchu konfliktu jak również sytuacja Wenecji i Genui począwszy od IX wieku. Kolejne rozdziały ukazują poszczególne etapy wojen, metody stosowane w bitwach oraz siły jakimi dysponowały obie republiki wraz z uwzględnieniem ich sojuszników. Praca pokazuje, że pomimo iż każda bitwa wyłoniła zwycięzcę podpisane pokoje w 1270, 1299, 1355 i 1381 roku nie przyniosły wygranej żadnej z republik, a prawdziwymi zwycięzcami ostatniej wojny byli książe Austrii i król Węgier. Ze względu na to, że temat tych wojen nie jest zbyt obszernie poruszany w polskiej literaturze praca może stać przydatna do poszerzenia wiedzy w tym temacie.
