Image of the Cultural Revolution in Mo Yan's "Republic of Wine"

W niniejszej pracy przeanalizowany został obraz Rewolucji Kulturalnej w powieści "Kraina wódki" Mo Yana. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiony został zarys historyczny oraz sytuacja społeczno-polityczna Chin podczas Rewolucji Kulturalnej w ciągu przyczynowo-skutkowym. W drugim rozdziale przybliżona została biografia Mo Yana, a także jego twórczość na przestrzeni lat, której zwieńczeniem było otrzymanie Nagrody Nobla w 2012 r. Początek trzeciego rozdziału stanowi wprowadzenie do cech charakterystycznych stylu Mo Yana oraz tematyki pojawiającej się w jego pracach. Następnie podjęta została próba analizy obrazu Rewolucji Kulturalnej w "Krainie wódki". Na przykładzie tego opowiadania widać wpływ lat dziecięcych na dzieła noblisty. "Kraina wódki" to obraz lat 90. XX w., a także karykatura jednego z głównym aspektów kultury chińskiej, a mianowicie kultury jedzenia i picia. Jest to przykład literatury ruchu poszukiwania korzeni, literatury awangardowej i literatury karnałowej, których cechy również zostały opisane w tym rozdziale. W dziełach Mo Yana można dostrzec krytyczny komentarz na temat obecnej w społeczeństwie korupcji. Praca stara się wykazać, że twórczość Mo Yana wyróżnia się na tle innych dzieł literatury chińskiej, a podejmowane przez niego tematy są tym co ukształtowało lub nadal kształtuje naród chiński.

This thesis analyses the depiction of the Cultural Revolution in the novel "Republic of Wine" by Mo Yan. The first chapter presents the historical outline and the socio-political situation of China during the Cultural Revolution in a cause-and-effect sequence. The second chapter introduces Mo Yan's biography, as well as his work over the years, culminating in his receiving the Nobel Prize in 2012. The beginning of the third chapter provides an introduction to the characteristics of Mo Yan's style and the themes that appear in his works. This is followed by an attempt to analyse the depiction of the Cultural Revolution in "Republic of Wine". The example of this short story shows the influence of his childhood years on the works of the Nobel laureate. "Republic of Wine is a depiction of the 1990s and a caricature of one of the main aspects of Chinese culture, namely food and drink culture. It is an example of the literature of the root-seeking movement, avant-garde literature and carnival literature, the characteristics of which are also described in this chapter. A critical commentary on the corruption present in society can be seen in Mo Yan's works. The paper seeks to demonstrate that Mo Yan's work stands out from other works of Chinese literature, and that the themes he addresses are what have shaped or continue to shape the Chinese nation.
